Source: Orioles promoted Elias to president of baseball operations

BALTIMORE—The Orioles promoted Mike Elias to president of baseball operations during the offseason and are seeking a general manager to work under him, according to a report in The Athletic by Ken Rosenthal and Brittany Ghiroli.

An industry source, who confirmed the report but declined to comment on whether the team was seeking a general manager, said the Orioles are expanding their baseball operations department.

Many teams have a general manager working under the team president.

The Orioles recently hired Washington Nationals scouting director Danny Haas as a special assistant to the general manager.

Besides seeking a general manager, the Orioles must make a decision on whether interim manager Tony Mansolino will be retained.

Elias came to the Orioles in November 2018.
