Are Orioles still interested in developing the Camden Yards area? | MAILBAG

Question: What is the deal with the Orioles’ new ownership, the lease and their plans for future development? Have they lost interest in developing the area around Camden Yards? From: Todd Stellhorn

Answer: Todd, the lease, which is for 15 years, was negotiated by John Angelos, who believed strongly in developing the area around Camden Yards, though I’m not sure what his exact plans were.

For now, I think David Rubenstein is concentrating on making sure the renovations for the ballpark that will begin in earnest after this season are completed, which will take a few years.

Perhaps after the renovations are complete or are well underway, he’ll think about plans for developing the area around Camden Yards.

Question: The only background info that I can find on Jeremiah Jackson is that we somehow acquired him from the Mets’ organization and has been in the Orioles’ camp for most of this year.

Had he ever played pro baseball before being picked up by the Mets?

Had he been a college player? Did we acquire him in a trade, or for cash considerations with the Mets? If so, what did the O’s have to give up to get him?

How can such a good hitter fly so low under the radar?  From: Fred Besche

Answer: Fred, Jeremiah Jackson was a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Angels in 2018 and was traded by them to the Mets in 2023.

Jackson, 25, was drafted from high school and was signed as a minor league free agent by the Orioles last November. He was batting .254 for Double-A Chesapeake before he was promoted to Norfolk, where he hit .377.

Sometimes, it’s just a matter of being in the right place at the right time, and the 25-year-old infielder/outfielder has taken advantage of his opportunity.

Most weekdays, I’ll be answering at least one Orioles question. If you’d like to submit a question, send it to: Rich@BaltimoreBaseball.com. Questions may be edited for clarity, length and style.
