Orioles’ Westburg leaves game with right ankle injury

BOSTON—Orioles third baseman Jordan Westburg left Monday night’s game against the Red Sox in the first inning with right ankle discomfort.

Westburg had reached second on Ryan Mountcastle’s single and injured the ankle rounding the second base bag and was removed from the game and replaced by Luis Vázquez.

He previously missed seven weeks this year with a strained left hamstring and is hitting .276 with a .799 OPS with 15 home runs and 34 RBIs in 74 games. Westburg also sprained his left index finger in June but didn’t go on the injured list.

If Westburg is out for an extended time, rookie Jeremiah Jackson could get a chance to play third.
