Orioles plan 30th anniversary celebration of Ripken’s 2131

BALTIMORE—The Orioles will commemorate the 30th anniversary of Cal Ripken Jr. breaking Lou Gehrig’s consecutive games streak before the September 6th game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Ripken played in his 2,131st consecutive game on September 6th, 1995.

Among those scheduled to attend before the 7:05 p.m. game are Hall of Famers and Ripken teammates Harold Baines, Eddie Murray and Mike Mussina. Other noted Ripken teammates will be Brady Anderson, Al Bumbry, Ben McDonald, Rafael Palmeiro and Larry Sheets.

Jon Miller, the former Orioles broadcaster and current San Francisco Giants broadcaster, also will be there, as will baseball commissioner Rob Manfred.

Pregame ceremonies will begin at 6:25 p.m. Ripken will reenact his jaunt around the field after the 1995 game became official by being driven around the warning track in a red Corvette convertible.

After some remarks by Ripken, his son, Ryan, will throw the first pitch to the Iron Man.

The 2-1-3-1 numbers will again adorn the warehouse, and each baseball used will have the 2131 logo.
