Kjerstad on Norfolk’s injured list; Updates on Eflin, Selby; Orioles claim reliever Rico Garcia off waivers

PHILADELPHIA—Outfielder/designated hitter Heston Kjerstad, the overall No. 2 pick in the 2020 draft who hasn’t played for Triple-A Norfolk since July 25th, has been placed on the Triple-A injured list.

Kjerstad was hitting just .149 with two home runs and six RBIs in 27 games for the Tides after hitting .192 with four homers and 19 RBIs in 54 games with the Orioles.

Interim manager Tony Mansolino didn’t offer specific details on Kjerstad, who reportedly was dealing with fatigue.

“I’m not ready to share yet, but I will talk about it and figure out what we want to share with you guys, but nothing yet,” he said.

Injury updates on Eflin, Selby: Zach Eflin, who hasn’t pitched since July 28th and is on the 15-day injured list with lower back discomfort, has received an epidural injection.

“There is no plan in place for him right now,” Mansolino said. “Kind of letting the shot do its work and see how he comes out of that and then as he feels better or when he does, we’ll be able to map out what the next month or two months look like, but nothing yet.”

Right-handed reliever Colin Selby has “a pretty significant [left] hamstring injury,” Mansolino said, and is unlikely to pitch for at least a month.

Mansolino doesn’t know if he’ll report on Wednesday.
