The Orioles sent 41-year-old right-hander Charlie Morton to the Detroit Tigers.
Morton is 7-8 with a 5.42 ERA, but he’s won six of his last seven decisions and reduced his ERA from 9.38 on May 7th.
He was signed to a one-year, $15 million contract in January.
The Orioles received left-handed pitcher Micah Ashman in return.
Ashman, 22, has thrown 42 1/3 innings between High-A West Michigan and Double-A Erie, all in relief. He has a 1.49 ERA and has struck out 10.63 batters per 9 innings. Ashman was a 2024 11th-round draft pick out of the University of Utah.
Morton’s deal was the sixth over the last two days. Infielder Ramón Urias went to Houston, reliever Andrew Kittredge to the Chicago Cubs, Cedric Mullins to the New York Mets, Ramón Laureano and Ryan O’Hearn to San Diego, and Morton to the Tigers.
Earlier, the Orioles traded utility infielder Ramón Urias to the Houston Astros, and relief pitcher Andrew Kittredge to the Chicago Cubs.
