Question: If Mike Elias hopes/expects the Orioles to compete for the division next year, can you explain the logic in trading our most consistent relief pitcher (outside of Félix Bautista) for a late first-round pick when Bryan Baker had several more seasons of control, and a draft pick will likely not be ready for 3-4 years if at all? From: Chris Meyers
Answer: Chris, the guess here is that the Orioles thought the value of Bryan Baker would never have been higher than it was when he was traded. The move surprised me, but I think they thought he could be easily replaced.
The Orioles have yet to sign high school outfielder Slater de Brun, and I think it’s important they do to make sure the trade doesn’t backfire.
Question: Is there any trade situation where we can get Kyle Stowers back? Or have I been out in the sun too much out here in Arizona? From: John Miller
Answer: John, it’s between you and your dermatologist whether you’ve been out too much in the Arizona sun, but there’s no chance that Miami will trade Kyle Stowers back to the Orioles.
