The Orioles activated outfielder Tyler O’Neill from the injured list ahead of Friday night’s game against the Braves in Atlanta. O’Neill had two stints on the 10-day injured list, the most recent for a left shoulder injury. The first one was a neck ailment.
O’Neill, who hasn’t played since May 15th, is hitting .188 with two home runs and 10 RBIs and is only 2-for-23 (.087) against left-handers.
The Orioles optioned outfielder Dylan Carlson to Triple-A Norfolk after Wednesday’s game in anticipation of O’Neill’s return.
Note: Billy Hunter, the last surviving member of the 1954 Orioles, has died, the Orioles announced on Thursday. He was 97. Hunter moved with the team from St. Louis to Baltimore for the inaugural 1954 season and was the team’s third base coach for 14 seasons. Hunter also managed the Texas Rangers and served as Towson’s baseball coach and athletic director.
