Orioles place Tromp on injured list, purchase Stallings’ contract, recall Carlson, designate Rivera for assignment

The Orioles on Tuesday placed catcher Chadwick Tromp on the 10-day injured list because of a lower back strain, and now have 13 players on the IL. Tromp sustained the injury in Monday night’s game against the Texas Rangers, and is the third catcher on the injured list, joining Adley Rutschman (left oblique strain) and Maverick Handley, who’s on the concussion list.

The Orioles purchased the contract of Jacob Stallings from Triple-A Norfolk. Stallings, who was signed as a minor league free agent a week ago, was released by Colorado on June 24th.

Stallings hit .143 with six RBIs in 28 games with the Rockies. The 35-year-old has a .234 average in 10 seasons with Pittsburgh, Miami and Colorado.

Tromp was hitting .188 with a home run and an RBI in six games for the Orioles.

The Orioles also recalled outfielder Dylan Carlson from Norfolk. Carlson is hitting .241 with four home runs and 12 RBIs in 40 games with the Orioles. He was optioned to Norfolk on Saturday.

Infielder Emmanuel Rivera was designated for assignment. He hit .229 with three RBIs in 26 games for the Orioles.

Pitcher Kyle Tyler elected free agency instead of accepting an outright assignment to Norfolk.
