BALTIMORE-The Orioles have recalled 26-year-old right-hander Brandon Young from Triple-A Norfolk to start Wednesday night’s game against the Texas Rangers. Interim manager Tony Mansolino announced that Young would start after Tuesday night’s 6-5, 10-inning loss to the Rangers.
Young, who won the organization’s minor league pitcher of the year award last season, was 0-2 with a 6.23 ERA in two starts for the Orioles in April. He struck out nine and walked eight in 8 2/3 innings.
After being optioned to Norfolk, Young missed a month with a right shoulder injury. He was 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA in five starts with the Tides and two with High-A Aberdeen.
The Orioles optioned right-hander Yaramil Hiraldo to Norfolk. He didn’t pitch in any of the three games he was activated for after his recall on Sunday.
