Ryan O’Hearn has an enormous lead in the latest voting among designated hitters for next month’s All-Star Game.
O’Hearn has 937,205 votes, some 528,000 ahead of the New York Yankees’ Ben Rice.
The only other Oriole in contention is second baseman Jackson Holliday, whose 806,133 votes trail Detroit’s Gleyber Torres by about 327,000. Holliday narrowly leads Houston’s Jose Altuve by about 11,000 votes.
The other Orioles among the leaders are catcher Adley Rutschman and first baseman Ryan Mountcastle, who are both seventh and would be unable to participate because of injuries; shortstop Gunnar Henderson and third baseman Ramón Urías, who are both ninth; and outfielder Ramón Laureano, who’s 20th.
This phase of voting ends Thursday at noon, and at 6 p.m., the top two votegetters at each position will be announced on the MLB Network.
Fans can vote in the Phase 2 runoff beginning June 30th at noon until noon on July 2nd. The starters will be announced at 7 p.m. on ESPN. The reserves and pitchers will be announced on July 6th at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
The All-Star Game will be held on July 15th at Atlanta’s Truist Park.
