BOSTON—The Orioles have designated left-handed pitcher Cionel Pérez for assignment. Pérez, who allowed five runs in an inning-plus on Friday, had an 8.31 ERA in 19 appearances. He walked 18 and struck out 21.
In four seasons with the Orioles, Pérez was 13-3 with a 3.72 ERA and six saves. He gave up only seven home runs in 186 1/3 innings.
The Orioles selected the contract of 29-year-old right-handed pitcher Yaromil Hiraldo, who had a 1-0 record and a 2.45 ERA in 11 games with Triple-A Norfolk, Double-A Chesapeake and High-A Aberdeen. Originally signed by Arizona, Hiraldo pitched in Independent ball the last three seasons.
