The Orioles designated right-handed pitcher Matt Bowman for assignment before Thursday’s game against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field.
Bowman pitched in the first two games of the Orioles’ series in Minneapolis, allowing two runs on three hits in 2/3 innings on Tuesday night and pitching a scoreless inning with a hit on Wednesday night.
For the season, the 34-year-old right-hander was 0-1 with a 5.19 ERA in 16 appearances.
Bowman had a 1.98 ERA through April 27th, but he gave up seven runs on eight hits in 2 2/3 innings in his next three outings. He was 1-0 with a 3.45 ERA in 15 games last year with the Orioles.
To replace Bowman on the roster, the Orioles recalled right-hander Colin Selby from Triple-A Norfolk. Selby has a 9.00 ERA in two appearances for the Orioles, allowing two runs on three hits in two innings.
Selby’s stay with the Orioles could be a brief one. Starting pitcher Zach Eflin is expected to be activated for this weekend’s series against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, and room must be created on the 26-man roster.
