The Orioles added another bullpen arm on Friday when they claimed right-hander Roansy Contreras off waivers from Cincinnati. The 25-year-old has a 10-16 record with a 4.72 ERA in 90 career games, 33 starts with Pittsburgh and the Los Angeles Angels. He’s also saved three games.
Contreras was 2-4 with a 4.35 ERA in 49 games with the Pirates and Angels last season with two saves. He struck out 56 and walked 31 in 68 1/3 innings in 2024.
On October 31st, Contreras was selected off waivers by Texas from Los Angeles, and on December 19th was claimed by the Reds.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Contreras, the Orioles designated infielder Liván Soto for assignment.
Soto, who was traded to the Orioles along with outfielder Austin Slater last July 30th from Cincinnati, was 3-for-10 (.300) in 12 games.
Catcher René Pinto, who was designated for assignment last Friday when the Orioles signed right-handed starter Charlie Morton, was claimed off waivers by Arizona.
