Will Orioles’ re-sign Corbin Burnes? | MAILBAG

Most weekdays, I’ll be answering at least one Orioles question. If you’d like to submit a question, send it to: Rich@BaltimoreBaseball.com. Questions may be edited for clarity, length and style.

Question: What do you think Corbin Burnes’ next contract will be worth, and how many years. Is there any chance of the Orioles taking a shot at him? From: Stanley Snarski

Answer: Stan, a similar question came from Gary and Dorothy Tallon.

After last season, Philadelphia re-signed Aaron Nola, a quality pitcher who was 30, the same age Burnes will be, for seven years, $175 million.

I think Nola is an excellent starter, but Burnes might be better, so the guess here is that Burnes would sign for more than Nola.

I would be surprised if the Orioles would offer a 30-year-old starter, even one as good as Burnes, more than the Phillies offered Nola, but I guess we’ll have to wait for the offseason to see.

Question: Recently you replied to a question about the worst trade the Orioles ever made and I have to agree that Glenn Davis clearly earned that “accolade”. However, how about we focus more on the positive and reflect on some of the best trades the Orioles made? Frank Robinson and Adam Jones should lead the parade, but how about a few more? From: Frank Maranto

Answer: Frank, obviously the Robinson and Jones trades were terrific. The Orioles also got Chris Tillman in the Jones trade. How about getting an excellent shortstop, J.J. Hardy, from Minnesota for Brett Jacobson and Jim Hoey? More recently, I like the acquisition of Kyle Bradish from the Angels for Dylan Bundy.
