Orioles right-hander Tyler Wells has elbow surgery

Orioles right-hander Tyler Wells had right elbow revision ulnar collateral ligament surgery with UCL repair and internal brace augmentation on Monday. The team announced that the surgery was successful and was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, Texas.

On May 31st, Orioles executive vice president/general manager Mike Elias announced that Wells and left-hander John Means would have season-ending elbow surgeries.

Means’ took place on June 3rd and also was performer by Dr. Meister. It was his second Tommy John surgery. He was with the Orioles this past weekend.

The 29-year-old Wells, who had Tommy John surgery in May 2019 while he was in the Minnesota Twins organization, was 0-2 with a 5.87 earned-run average in three starts with the Orioles this year. He last pitched on April 12th.

Wells went on the injured list in mid-April and tried to rehabilitate in Sarasota for several weeks before the decision on surgery was made.
