Midday Mailbag: How aggressive will Orioles be at the trade deadline?

Every weekday, I’ll be answering at least one Orioles question. If you’d like to submit a question, send it to: Rich@BaltimoreBaseball.com. Questions may be edited for clarity, length and style.

Question: If something happens where the Yankees run away with the AL East, could you see Elias start moving players in their final year and bring up the some of the team’s top prospects and give them a chance to play? From: @OsSuperFanWill

Answer: Will, I don’t think the Yankees will run away with the American League East. I think that when the Orioles visit Yankee Stadium in the last week of the season, those will be meaningful games.

Even if the Yankees win the division, the Orioles should be in the postseason as a wild-card team. Last year’s World Series was between two wild-card teams, Texas and Arizona, and the Diamondbacks made the postseason with 84 wins.

It’s certainly possible we’ll see Jackson Holliday, Heston Kjerstad, Coby Mayo and Connor Norby later this season, but I don’t know when.

There have been several unlikely teams in the World Series in recent years. I can’t imagine Mike Elias is going to sell off a group of players at the end of July, but I think he’s going to be aggressive because once you get to the postseason, and I’d be surprised if the Orioles don’t get there, anything can happen.

Question: As a lifelong Orioles fan I have been so excited to see how our new owner, Mr. Rubenstein, has been with fans. Will we hear our old theme song “Orioles Magic” blaring out the speakers at the Yard soon? From: Robin Powell

Answer: Robin, “Orioles Magic” is played after every Orioles win.
