CINCINNATI—Dean Kremer allowed just one hit in six sparkling innings, and the Orioles completed a three-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds.
The Orioles’ 11-1 win over the Reds before 31,514 at Great American Ball Park on Sunday was their fourth straight win and their sixth in seven games. They remain a game ahead of the New York Yankees for first place in the American League East.
It was the third series sweep for the Orioles (23-11), and they allowed just one run this weekend.
Kremer (3-2) retired the first 13 Cincinnati (16-18) batters before Christian Encarnacion-Strand’s single with one out in the fifth. Kremer walked Jonathan India, and retired his last five batters, and struck out the side in the sixth. He struck out six batters.
Cole Irvin, John Means and Kremer, the Orioles’ starters this weekend, combined for 19 1/3 scoreless innings.
The Orioles jumped out quickly and scored three runs against Reds starter Nick Lodolo (3-1) in the first.
Ryan Mountcastle doubled with two outs and scored on Anthony Santander’s single. Jordan Westburg hit his sixth home on the next pitch for a 3-0 lead.
Adley Rutschman’s double scored Ramón Urías in the fifth. Ryan McKenna homered to start the seventh, his second, and Rutschman’s RBI single scored Urías for a 6-0 lead.
Colton Cowser’s RBI double and Santander’s grand slam in the ninth gave them an 11-0 lead.
Albert Suárez came in for the seventh, his first appearance in relief, and retired seven batters before Mike Baumann allowed a ninth-inning run.
