Orioles beat Yankees for 2nd straight night, 4-2

BALTIMORE—The Orioles are off to an excellent start in their four-game series with the New York Yankees. Dean Kremer pitched seven innings, equaling the Orioles’ longest start of 2024, allowing two solo home runs as the Orioles won their second straight against the Yankees, 4-2, before 21,949 at Camden Yards on Tuesday night.

The Orioles (19-1o) lead the Yankees (19-12) for first place in the American League East.

Anthony Santander led off the second with a double against Nestor Cortes (1-3) and scored when New York second baseman Gleyber Torres threw wildly to third after he fielded Jordan Westburg’s grounder.

Austin Wells homered in the third against Kremer (2-2) to tie the score at 1-1.

The Orioles  took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Jorge Mateo doubled and scored on James McCann’s double. Colton Cowser singled and McCann advanced to third and scored on Gunnar Henderson’s infield single. Adley Rutschman, who earlier extended his hitting streak to a career-high 11-games, scored Henderson with a single.

Yankees rightfielder Juan Soto hit a 447-foot home run with one out in the sixth. It landed on Eutaw Street, the first one this season.

Oriole reliever Keegan Akin recorded two outs in the eighth but allowed a single to Anthony Volpe. Jacob Webb struck out Aaron Judge to end the inning.

Webb struck out Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo in the ninth, and Torres grounded out to third for the final out. Webb earned his first save as an Oriole.

Craig Kimbrel, who has missed the last two games with a back injury, had an extensive throwing session before the game but wasn’t used.
