PITTSBURGH—Leftfielder Austin Hays isn’t in the Orioles’ lineup for Friday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
“He’s a little under the weather,” manager Brandon Hyde said. “Maybe the weather will warm him up. He’s getting a little extra rest now. He’ll be here at game time.
“Pressing a little bit … When Haysy swings at strikes, good things happen. That’s more approach-driven than anything else.”
Hays, who struggled at the plate in spring training, hitting .138 in 12 games, is batting just 2-for-18 (.111) with an RBI and is hitless in his last 11 at-bats. He has been expanding the strike zone and has looked frustrated after at-bats.
