Orioles’ Holliday continues rise through farm system with promotion to Norfolk

After getting three more hits for Double-A Bowie on Sunday, Jackson Holliday, the top prospect in minor league baseball, found out that he was being promoted for the third time this season–to Triple-A Norfolk, one step away from the major leagues.

The 19-year-old shortstop, who was the first overall pick in the July 2022 draft, began the season at Single-A Delmarva where he hit .396 with two home runs and 16 RBIs and a 1.183 OPS in 14 games. At High-A Aberdeen, Holliday hit .314 with five home runs and 35 RBIs and a .940 OPS in 57 games. With Bowie, Holliday hit .344 with three homers and 15 RBIs and a .928 OPS in 36 games.

Holliday will join Norfolk on Tuesday when the Tides host Jacksonville. His promotion will allow him to play another 10 days because the Baysox’s season will end on September 17th, and the Tides, whose season ends on September 24th, have qualified for the International League playoffs.
