Orioles’ Hyde ignoring postseason: ‘We’ve got the Astros tonight’; Frazier, Hicks, Mullins improving; Bradfield goes to Delmarva

BALTIMORE—Major League Baseball announced the postseason schedule on Tuesday, and if the Orioles are fortunate enough to play in the World Series, there could be November baseball in Baltimore.

The World Series is scheduled to begin on October 27^th, and if a seventh game is necessary, it will be played on November 4^th.

If the Orioles win the Eastern Division, they’d host an American League Division Series. Game 1 is scheduled for October 7^th.

If the Orioles are a wild-card team, those games are scheduled for October 3^rd, 4^th, and if needed October 5^th at the team with the better record.

The American league Championship Series will begin on October 15^th.

Manager Brandon Hyde hasn’t looked at the postseason schedule.

“We’ve got the Astros tonight,” Hyde said before Tuesday’s game. “First we have to get there. We’ve got a long way to go and we need to play good baseball the rest of the way and a lot of things can happen. We need to stay healthy

“Hopefully, things work out in the end. Playoffs are a different story. Playoffs are a totally different season. Rosters can be a little different. You’re facing frontline pitching on a nightly basis, but let’s continue to play well. Continue to play better. We want to continue to improve these last 50 games. We have a tough schedule, the West Coast twice. There’s a lot of things ahead of us, more adversity as we go along and we’ve just got to continue to play well.”

Frazier, Mullins, Hicks on the mend: Second baseman Adam Frazier, who missed the weekend series with the New York Mets, jammed his right thumb in the turf at Toronto’s Rogers Centre last Thursday.

“He’s been getting treatment since then,” Hyde said, “But he feels way better since then. Treatment the last few days. Offday, he came in yesterday. He had treatment on it, also. He’s available off the bench tonight. He should be in there tomorrow.”

Centerfielder Cedric Mullins, who’s on the 10-day injured list with a right adductor groin strain, will play for Double-A Bowie in Richmond.

“He’s getting really close,” Hyde said. “We’ll see how tonight goes. Just want to give him some more at-bats, some more playing time. He should be joining us soon.”

Outfielder Aaron Hicks, who’s on the injured list with a strained left hamstring, is nearing a rehab assignment.

“Hicksy was out there earlier. He’s doing some running. That went really well,” Hyde said. “He did some high velocity batting practice to get him going to game speed as much as possible. He should be going out soon on a rehab assignment. Hopefully all goes well and joining us sometime, whenever that is. He’s progressing well.”

Hyde said that right-hander Jacob Webb, claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels on Monday, should report in the next couple of days.

Minor moves: Orioles first-round draft pick Enrique Bradfield Jr. was moved from the Florida Complex League to Single-A Delmarva. Bradfield was 4-for-9 (.556) in three games in the FCL. Bradfield will be joined on the Shorebirds by second-round pick, third baseman Mac Horvath, third-round choice, outfielder Tavian Josenberger, 10^th-round pick, outfielder Matthew Etzel, and shortstop Jalen Vasquez, the 20^th-round selection.

Infielder Carter Young and outfielder Erison Placencia were promoted from Delmarva to High-A Aberdeen while outfielder Luis González and catcher Meibrys Viloria are moving from the Shorebirds to the Florida Complex League.

Infielders Collin Burns, Maxwell Costes and Jud Fabian were promoted from Aberdeen to Double-A Bowie. Infielder Joseph Rosa are moving from Bowie to Triple-A Norfolk while infielders Anthony Servideo and Jacob Teter will go from Bowie to Aberdeen.
