Oriole fans and most baseball fans probably expected Adley Rutschman to easily beat the Texas Rangers’ Jonah Heim in the final voting for American League All-Star catcher.
Heim ended up beating Rutschman, who led all catchers in Phase 1 fan voting, by 52 to 48 percent and will be the starting catcher for the American League at the All-Star Game in Seattle’s T-Mobile Park on July 11th.
Rutschman could still be added as a reserve. Pitchers and reserve players will be announced on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
Rutschman, reliever Félix Bautista and outfielder Austin Hays all seem to have excellent chances to make their first All-Star team.
