The Orioles activated right-handed reliever Mychal Givens from the 15-day injured list on Sunday and optioned left-hander Cole Irvin to Triple-A Norfolk.
Givens suffered a left knee injury during spring training and has yet to pitch for the Orioles this season. He rejoined the Orioles on December 21st when he signed a one-year, $6 million contract with a $6 million mutual option.
Drafted as an infielder in 2009, Givens was converted to a pitcher and made his debut in 2015. Before he was traded to the Colorado Rockies in August 2020, he was 20-17 with a 3.32 ERA and 20 saves. Givens, 33, also played for Cincinnati, the Chicago Cubs and the New York Mets.
Irvin, who was acquired from Oakland in January, was sent to Norfolk after three disappointing starts. He was recalled on Tuesday and pitched to two batters in Saturday’s 6-5 win over Toronto. He recorded one out and allowed a hit. In four games, Irvin is 0-2 with a 10.38 ERA.
