SARASOTA, Florida—The Orioles made 13 cuts from their spring training roster on Sunday. The most prominent name was right-hander Grayson Rodriguez, the top pitching prospect in minor league baseball.
In his first major league camp, Rodriguez allowed four runs in 1 1/3 innings in his only Grapefruit League outing.
The Orioles optioned four players to Triple-A Norfolk: infielders Rylan Bannon, who had a game-winning single in Sunday’s 5-4 win over Detroit, Jahmai Jones and Terrin Vavra, and left-handed pitcher Kevin Smith.
Vavra and Smith were added to the 40-man roster in November.
Right-hander Logan Gillaspie, who was also added to the 40-man roster just ahead of the lockout, was optioned to Double-A Bowie.
Rodriguez, infielder Patrick Dorrian, outfielder Robert Neustrom, catchers Brett Cumberland and Maverick Handley, right-handed pitchers Marcos Diplán and Cody Sedlock, and left-hander Nick Vespi were reassigned to minor league camp.
Sedlock, in his first major league camp, was the Orioles’ top draft choice in 2016.
The Orioles’ spring training roster is at 48 players.
