Orioles invite Adley Rutschman, Grayson Rodriguez, 20 other non-roster players to spring training

SARASOTA, Florida–The Orioles have invited 22 non-roster players to spring training. The most noted are catcher Adley Rutschman, the top prospect in the minor leagues, and Grayson Rodriguez, baseball’s top pitching prospect. It is Rutschman’s third invitation to major league spring training and Rodriguez’s first.

Outfielder Kyle Stowers also received his first invitation, as did right-handed pitcher Cody Sedlock, the Orioles’ top pick in the 2016 draft.

Other prospects invited to their first big league camps include right-handers Blaine Knight and Ofelky Peralta, left-hander Nick Vespi, infielder Patrick Dorrian, and outfielder Robert Neustrom.

Players with major league experience on the list are right-handers Marcos Diplán, Rico Garcia, Travis Lakins and Spenser Watkins, left-hander Ryan Hartman, catchers Anthony Bemboom and Jacob Nottingham, and infielders Shed Long and Richie Martin.

The others without big league experience are right-hander Denyi Reyes, and catchers Brett Cumberland, Maverick Handley and Cody Roberts.

The Orioles have not made the signing of 37-year-old catcher Robinson Chirinos official. He would be the 40^th man on the 40-man roster. Sixty-two players will be in camp. The Orioles’ first workout is scheduled for Monday.

Note: The Orioles will play an additional Grapefruit League game on April 6^th against the Detroit Tigers at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium. Game time is 1:05 p.m.
