BALTIMORE—Ramón Urias, who was placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday because of an upper leg injury, is eligible to play in the Orioles’ final two games of the season, but the Orioles will keep him out.
“His season is over, unfortunately,” manager Brandon Hyde said.
Urías, 27, finishes with a .279 average with seven home runs and 38 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .361 in 85 games. He started 36 games at shortstop, 27 at second base and 10 at third.
“I think we have a lot of decisions to make,” Hyde said. “Ramón’s year definitely put him on the map as someone for us to discuss as being part of the infield next year. He did a lot of good things for us this year. He played multiple positions. He took good at-bats, put up some numbers, was solid defensively in three spots. Disappointing to see his season end. I’m sure he’s going to be on the radar for us next year.”
Chris Ellis, who was scheduled to start on Tuesday night but didn’t because of right arm fatigue, threw a side session Thursday. Hyde said that Ellis could start on Saturday against the Texas Rangers.
The Orioles have listed John Means as Saturday’s starter, but if Ellis is ready to pitch, Means would pitch on Sunday.
Rightfielder Anthony Santander, who missed Wednesday’s game because of a sore left hamstring, is improving, Hyde said. “Probably still a day or two away. He does feel better today,” Hyde said.
Hyde was concerned that Santander, who injured the hamstring chasing J.T. Realmuto’s game-winning triple on Tuesday night, wouldn’t play again this season when he watched him walk off the field.
“We dodged a bullet there,” Hyde said. “He’s going to be sore for the rest of the year.”
Tyler Nevin, who played two games with the Orioles earlier this season, is with the team. Nevin was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk when first basemen Trey Mancini and Ryan Mountcastle were out because they had been hit by pitches. Besides first, Nevin can play third base and the corner outfield spots.
Bruce Zimmermann, who’s on the 60-day injured list because of a sprained right ankle, is pitching the first game of a doubleheader for Triple-A Norfolk. Zimmermann could pitch for the Orioles on Tuesday.
“I think we’re going to watch him pitch tonight and reevaluate,” Hyde said. “See where we are pitching staff-wise, see about Ellis. Some of these [starters] are putting some innings in. Maybe we’ll piggyback. I don’t know what we’ll do yet. Deciding about Chris is a big factor in a lot of things.”

Looking for an answer. How can Chris Ellis, a major league pitcher who has pitched 26.1 innings in a 6 month season be suffering from arm fatigue? Just wondering.
Michael, it's actually 83 1/3 innings, including the minor leagues, the most he's pitched in three years. He didn't pitch at all last year.
Thanks for the info Rich. I looked up his stats and obviously I only found numbers for ML time and not minor league innings.

I agree, 83 innings over 6 months is not even 14 innings a month on average. But he has done a good job for us, it has been a solid pick up.
Hard to believe but it looks as if all these injuries and DFAs caused the Orioles put a group of players on the field tonight that resembled a major league team. I realize it was the Rangers it but was enjoyable, something I haven’t been able to say for a long time!
