NEW YORK—The Orioles placed outfielder Austin Hays on the 10-day injured list because of a strained right hamstring before Monday’s game against the Yankees. Hays injured the hamstring while running out a double in the third inning of Sunday’s game in Boston and immediately came out of the game.

Hays’ two-run double was part of the Orioles’ seven-run third inning. He is 2-for-10 (.200) with two RBIs in three games.

The Orioles recalled outfielder Ryan McKenna from the team’s alternate training site at Bowie to replace Hays on the 26-man roster. McKenna, who had been traveling with the club as part of its five-man taxi squad, is batting ninth in Monday’s lineup and playing right field. It will be his major league debut.

The Orioles also activated right-handed pitcher Shawn Armstrong from the paternity list. Armstrong’s wife gave birth to a son on March 31st. Right-hander Cole Sulser was optioned to the alternate site at Bowie. Sulser threw two scoreless innings on Sunday.

All-Star Game: The Orioles have expressed interest in hosting this year’s All-Star Game, which was scheduled to be held at Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves, the team confirmed.

On Friday, Major League Baseball decided to remove the game from Atlanta because Georgia passed laws that opponents say are aimed at reducing the number of votes in elections. The All-Star Game is scheduled for July 13th.

The Orioles, who last held the All-Star Game in 1993, would be interested in hosting the game in the future if another city is chosen instead.

News of the Orioles’ interest was first reported by The Baltimore Sun.

Santander? I’m glad they’re giving a youngen a chance in McKenna, but you’re 3-0, playing the Yankees & the lineup doesn’t look very intimidating…go O’s…

Better than Armstrong looked, in his defense should’ve been out of the inning on 2-2 pitch that was called a ball, gave up 1HR last yr, already did that this yr…go O’s…

Have announcers said why Santander isn’t playing? Oblique acting up? It’s not like he should need a day off after having the final week of spring training off. Lopez final stats looked much worse than he deserved but that’s what happens when you walk people.

Lopez looked good and aside from leaving a pitch up in the zone to Judge, he was efficient until the three walks in a row mess.
Then the titanic tater ball to Stanton……
He looks composed on the mound and mixes all four pitches well. Let’s hope he learns from it.

I agree. Couldn’t help but notice it was immediately after Severino was giving him crap for crossing him up. Severino just shut up and catch the ball, it happens. Lopez clearly had rhythm and focus going until 3ip 1 hit 4K. Lost concentration worrying about upsetting his catcher. Thanks for putting team first sevy. What a joke

No thanks to all star game this year. That political pandemic football can bounce on over to another city. Why not visit the blue jays and check out lovely Dunedin, Florida. But keep us in mind for next year before we move to Nashville!

I believe Hyde wanted to get McKenna and Armstrong into a game right away after being added to the team. Unfortunately, Lopez didn’t give Armstrong much wiggle room by loading the bases. Didn’t matter who we bring in. Yankees usually find a way to take advantage of that kind of situation. Loved the way Sceroler got out of the same situation but is was a case of shutting the barn door after the horses have escaped. The pressure was already lessened for him with the Yanks having a 6-0 lead. Nice major league debut though.
