NEW YORK—The Orioles reinstated Chris Davis from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. Davis had been on the injured list because left knee patella tendinitis since August 21st.
Davis is batting .122 with one RBI in 15 games.
“Chris, the last few days had been taking quite a few at-bats at Bowie,” manager Brandon Hyde said in his Tuesday pregame video conference call. “He feels a lot better. I just spoke with him a couple of hours ago. He feels good. He’s ready to go. I’m going to find spots to possibly play him.”
Davis is not in the starting lineup against the New York Mets on Tuesday.
“When I make the lineup out, I’m going to give our team that day the best chance to win, and if CD’s a part of the lineup that day, then he is. If he’s not, he’s going to be ready to pinch-hit that day.”
Hyde said it was possible that Davis would start against the New York Mets’ Rick Porcello on Wednesday night.
“Chris is one part of the team, and I make the decision to play him or not based on a lot of factors,” Hyde said.
To make room for Davis on the 28-man roster, the Orioles designated infielder Dilson Herrera for assignment.
Herrera was hitless in five at-bats.
Fulmer activated: Carson Fulmer was activated on Monday night, and he’s eager for his chance to pitch for the Orioles.
Fulmer was claimed on waivers on Saturday from the Pittsburgh Pirates. He didn’t pitch for Pittsburgh after he was claimed from Detroit on August 24th. Fulmer had a 6.75 ERA in seven games for Detroit this season.
“I’ve been through a couple of teams the last month or so,” Fulmer said “They’re going to try to give me as many innings as possible.”
Fulmer was 6-9 with a 6.51 ERA in 51 games for the Chicago White Sox from 2016-2019.
He threw a bullpen session for the Orioles on Monday.
“Definitely unexpected,” Fulmer said. “I was fortunate enough to stay and be with this organization. It’s definitely brought a lot of things into perspective for me. It’s motivated me a lot to get back to where I was. I’m definitely going to take this opportunity and run with it.”
Fulmer was the eighth overall pick by the White Sox in 2015 from Vanderbilt.
“When I got here a couple of days ago, I was able to talk to the staff,” Fulmer said. “They just want me to get back to the guy I was, and the guy that was drafted where I was.
“I want to get back to my Vandy days. I want to get back to the pitcher I was.”
Branden Kline was returned to the Bowie alternate site to make room for Fulmer.

Let’s admit that C. Davis is a very good fielder at first base! I’m most comfortable defensively with Davis out there at 1st. At the plate, it’s a train wreck!

And then, the ghost of Christmas past arrives, a 6’3” sculpted monument to an age that needs forgotten, and soon. It’s time to let this man go.
Hate to pile on but my God move on, Orioles! Him being back on the roster is a punch to the gut. He is not part of the rebuild, the future, the present or even the recent past. Just let him freaking go already!!!
You know I was making a comment the other day, about manager hide handling the young players very well , and how he would probably not be the manager when the team becomes full of more veteran All-Stars and more experienced homegrown players? So in 2 to 3 more years if we develop a very good group of players that are homegrown and a couple of free agent veterans our manager Mr. Hyde will not be here because I think he does not handle veteran players as well? My example of not handling veteran players well is Chris Davis. Mr. Hyde got in an argument with Mr. Davis and benched him for a game I think the very first season Hyde/he was here and Baltimore! How do you think Mr. Hyde would handle a whole team of more veteran and experienced players who have more attitude and ego and boundaries? The Orioles will need someone like Mike Scioscia, Joe Girardi, or the manager from the Cubs and LA Angels - Joe Maddon, etc. ? I guess Mr. Hyde is just here for the growth process and the teaching?

I’m being serious here, this isn’t a statement looking to be outrageous or anything like that at all. Does anyone think there’s a chance that the young guys enthusiasm they’re showing now and as well as they’re playing could have a positive impact on Chris? I actually do think that’s possible. How can he not get caught up in the excitement at the prospect of helping out a playoff contending team? As of tonight, with 19 games to go, only 6 teams have fewer losses than the O’s. Right now 4 teams have 21 losses, 2 will make the playoffs and 2 will not. Who would’ve ever thought this weekend series in New York would possibly have playoff implications. Chris has to know if he doesn’t perform Hyde will not play him. I for one think that might bring out some fire in him, at least I hope it does. As someone else said, he’s very good defensively and if he starts hitting I really like this clubs chances of making the post season. God it feels good to say that.
Ray Lewis has a ton of fire. I doubt anybody would question that. Fire isn’t going to help him hit major league pitching though. Same for Davis. Whatever happened to Davis is a mystery, but there is no question he can no longer hit major league pitching at even a minimal major league rate.
Poor dilson Herrera. That’s a heck of a slap in the face to be dfa for Davis. Fulmer is worth a flier even though he probably won’t work out. Maybe the birds can get a good arm for down the stretch.
Putting Chris Davis into the starting Oriole lineup would be a disaster. He would stick out like a Wedding Crasher. The man doesn't even put the ball in play anymore. Best case scenario would be to deploy him exclusively as a late inning defensive replacement. Chris is a Plus Defender. Love his glove work. O's might as well get some return on this huge investment.
For all you conspiracy theorists out there, putting Davis in the lineup every day will be a great way to tank. Seriously though, I like Davis as a person and what a fairytale ending to the season it would be is he starts hitting and leads us to the postseason. Both statements are WAY WAY out there!
If Chris Davis starts hitting, what would we all complain about then?
He isn’t going to. He has hit .186 over his last 1,450 plate appearances going back to the beginning of the Trump administration. He has struck out in 542 of those plate appearances. His OPS is .616. For comparison, Mark Belanger’s career OPS was .580 while chain smoking and never lifting a weight.
