Today is expected to be one of possible moves for the Orioles – especially with reliever Richard Bleier likely going to the disabled list with a lat injury
The assumption is the Orioles will call up a lefty reliever – Tanner Scott or Donnie Hart – to fill Bleier’s spot.
There’s also the possibility that Wednesday’s starter, Yefry Ramirez, will go back to Triple-A Norfolk, because he won’t be able to be used for several days and the Orioles might want another fresh bullpen arm.
In addition, the Orioles have summoned 29-year-old infielder Corban Joseph from Double-A Bowie today, according to a source.
It’s not clear whether Joseph will be activated today or is in Baltimore simply as an insurance policy for the potential of further moves.
Joseph, the younger brother of Triple-A Norfolk catcher Caleb, hasn’t been in the majors since his lone appearance on May 13, 2013 – starting and playing in both games of a doubleheader for the New York Yankees, the team that drafted him in the fourth round in 2008. If he gets into a game with the Orioles, Joseph will have made it back to the big leagues after five-plus years in the minors with four organizations.
Joseph has spent this full season with the Double-A Bowie Baysox and has been tremendous at the plate, hitting .336 with a .394 on-base percentage and a .550 slugging percentage. He has 21 doubles and eight homers in 59 games with the Baysox while starting at second base, first base, third base and designated hitter.
His brother, Caleb, was the Orioles’ Opening Day catcher this season, but was demoted in mid-May to Norfolk, where he has hit .272 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 81 at-bats.
If the two were on the same big league team together, it would mark the first set of brothers playing together for the Orioles since Billy and Cal Ripken Jr., in 1996.

That's a great opportunity for a career minor leaguer such as Joseph to make a statement. I rooted for his brother just for that reason. Trey Mancini is another grinder who stayed in college and paid his dues in the minor leagues for a few years. Hopefully at some point players will come up and show what they can do at the Major League level.
That’s always the hope. It’s a whole other level of course.
To quote Captain Kirk (one always quotes ST when one can), "it's damn peculiar." (This was in the context of the sudden and unexpected appearance of the Starship Reliant right before the first battle scene in ST II - Kirk did not know it was under Khan's control).
Back to baseball. Why recall a first baseman when the team already seems to have a half dozen of them? Something else must be brewing.

Because he is more of a hitter on base guy and does things a lot of Orioles don’t. As for the brother thing, Caleb is thrilled for him.
If this team needs anything, its a guy who profiles as a First Baseman
I don’t care if he profiles as a cricket player if he takes pitches and gets on base.
I'm happy to see Corban get another cup of coffee, but seeing as he can't play SS or 3B I don't see how he's a long term option to stay with the big league squad. He won't see much time at 2B and even less at 1B.
The guy I like to see at least get a look to say he played in the majors is Mike Yastrzemski, I'm not saying he is a player even in 2019 but is Gentry really an option in 2019 either? Yaz is capable of playing all 3 OF spots. Let him has him day in the sun since he won't gets it elsewhere.
Yeah. I’d be curious to see him get a shot. At this point you should find out what you have in the minors. Maybe one sticks.
