We had another excellent competition for our “Prep Ballplayer of the Week,” honor, with it ultimately going to Annapolis Area Christian’s Andrew Sowinski.
The sophomore left-hander stuck out 12 batters and allowed three hits in six innings as part of a 14-0 victory over Friends School of Baltimore last week.
It’s Sowinski’s first nomination and weekly award from BaltmoreBaseball.com. He was in stiff competition with Chesapeake-Anne Arundel junior right-hander/infielder Joe Seidler.
The two traded places most of the week, with Sowinski receiving 52 percent of the nearly 22,000 votes cast. Seidler, who is the only player to be nominated for the award four times since we started it in 2016, garnered 43 percent, and Archbishop Curley junior Paul Nixon picked up 5 percent of the vote.
We’ll have three new candidates Monday, with voting running through Thursday night.
If you’re interested in submitting candidates for our consideration, please send the player’s name, key statistics from the previous week and your contact information to sean@baltimorebaseball.com. We welcome suggestions and your feedback.
