Delmarva pitching coach Blaine Beatty has been coaching in the Orioles organization for 11 seasons, and has mentored many of the club’s young hurlers.
One of his prized pupils is Dylan Bundy, who is now tearing up the majors.
Beatty, a former Orioles’ draft pick himself in 1986, talks about his days with Bundy at multiple minor league levels and how the 23-year-old has developed over time.
“I can’t say enough good things about him,” Beatty said of Bundy in this week’s Minor League Podcast with Adam Pohl, the voice of the Bowie Baysox.
Pohl, who has known Beatty for years, asks Beatty about several of his current pitching prospects, including former third-rounder Brian Gonzalez, impressive 19-year-old Ofelky Peralta and little-known but improving right-hander Cristian Alvarado.
In the later part of the podcast, Pohl delves into what it’s like for a minor leaguer to walk away from his playing days without making the majors. Pohl talks to former Orioles’ minor league infielder Bobby Stevens, a former 16th rounder, about the transition from playing pro ball to the real world.
As always, this podcast is worth a listen.
