Keith Bodie is new to managing the Frederick Keys. But he’s not new to managing. This is his 19th year as a minor-league skipper, and nine previous times his clubs have made the postseason.
Spending most of his career in the Houston Astros organization, Bodie joined the Orioles in 2015 as the hitting coach for the Double-A Bowie Baysox.
Now he’s directing the Keys. And he’s managing Orioles’ prospects such as DJ Stewart, Tanner Scott and Jomar Reyes.
In this week’s Minor League Podcast with Adam Pohl, Bodie talks about his experiences managing in the minors and his philosophy with developing prospects. He gives his opinion on some of his current Keys players including 2015 first-rounder, Stewart.
Bodie is impressed with Stewart, who has swung the bat well since being promoted from Low-A Delmarva, where he struggled some.
“He’s experiencing some early success (at Frederick) and I think it’s just the tip of the iceberg. I think we’ve got a pretty good player here,” Bodie told Pohl, the voice of the Bowie Baysox. “I think this kid is going to (have) a pretty significant impact for the upcoming years in Baltimore.”
