From the moment he was drafted with the 61st pick overall in the 2013 draft, there was talk that Chance Sisco one day would be an Orioles’ backstop – perhaps the heir apparent to Matt Wieters.
For one, he had the big-league name, Chance Sisco. But the 21-year-old from Corona, Calif., also has plenty of game.
He won the South Atlantic League batting title with the Low-A Delmarva Shorebirds in 2014. Last year, he hit .308 at High-A Frederick and then held his own in a call-up to Double-A Bowie.
This year, he has hit .307 with a .399 on-base percentage in his first 69 games with the Baysox. He has just one homer this season, but he leads Bowie in doubles (17). He has struck out just 42 times (and walked 36 times) – while being the youngest player on the Baysox roster.
There’s a reason he’s considered the Orioles’ organization’s third best prospect – and top position player prospect. And others have noticed. He will play Sunday – in front of about 100 friends and family – at the Futures Game in San Diego.
