Spalding’s Tyler Blohm wins ‘Prep Ballplayer of the Week’

Striking out 79 percent of the batters you face is pretty good for a pitcher, right? Well that’s exactly what Archbishop Spalding’s Tyler Blohm did in his final regular season game Tuesday against Archbishop Curley. No wonder he’s our ‘Prep Ballplayer of the Week’ winner.

Blohm faced 19 batters and struck out 15 of them in an 11-3 win over the Friars, allowing just two hits in the process and improving his record to 8-0 with a 0.78 ERA. This wasn’t the first time he’s missed a lot of bats either; his 14.17 K/9 IP on the season is stellar.

The Spalding standout tallied nearly 6,500 votes in our poll to top Elliot Zoellner of St. Mary’s and Jesse McElree of South River. More than 10,500 votes were cast overall in another display of just how good the quality of high school baseball is in our area. And, oh yeah, how much support these players have from their family, friends, and communities.
