Orioles sign LHP Wandy Rodriguez to minor-league deal

Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette frequently talks about building his team throughout the year, not just in the offseason. Friday was no exception.

The club announced that it has inked left-handed pitcher Wandy Rodriguez to a minor-league contract, which was first reported by our own Dan Connolly:

Rodriguez is headed to extended spring training in Sarasota and will seemingly be working toward joining the major league club, perhaps in its rotation. The left-hander last pitched for the Rangers in 2015, appearing in 17 games (15 starts) with a 4.90 ERA and 6-4 record in 86 1/3 innings. For his career, Rodriguez — now 37 years old — is 97-98 with a 4.10 ERA.

The southpaw was with the Astros in spring training, and despite pitching well (11 strikeouts and 3.95 ERA in 13 2/3 innings), was released on April 5.
