Know Your O’s: Zach Britton

We’re all about new features here at BaltimoreBaseball.com. That’s partially because we’re new here at BaltimoreBaseball.com. It’s like an expansion team around here. Just about everything we do is our first something or another.

So today we are rolling out a new feature, which we hope to present regularly throughout the season. It’s called, “Know Your O’s” and it’s a video interview with a player that will focus a little more on who that guy is and what makes him tick. There will also be some purposely silly questions, because this is all supposed to be fun, right?

My first victim is one of the most accessible and affable players on the Orioles, closer Zach Britton (this a clubhouse filled with accessible and easygoing guys; makes our jobs easier).

Britton has been with the organization since 2006 and made his debut in 2011, but I’m guessing there are some things even the most ardent Oriole fan doesn’t know about Britton.

Such as, why was choosing an AC/DC song for his walk-in music important to Britton?

What veteran bought Britton’s first road-trip suit in the big leagues?

Where does he like to eat breakfast in Baltimore?

What has fatherhood been like for him?

This isn’t groundbreaking stuff; not exactly deep analysis. But I think it should be a fun feature, and maybe give you a little different glimpse into the lives of these guys.

Hope you enjoy it, and if you have any suggestions on whom you want featured, let us know.

  • With all situational pitching there is nowadays/concerns about rest does Zach ever try to lobby Buck to pitch more innings being that he used to be a starter?

  • No. Zach doesn't lobby for innings. I think he trusts his coaching staff to put him in the best situations. He'll pitch whenever, but I think he likes understanding when he's usually going to be put in. But I understand your point. Good question.
