The Orioles will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Eddie Murray’s 500th home run before their game against the Boston Red Sox on September 6th.
Murray, who played 21 major league seasons, 13 with the Orioles, hit the historic home run against Detroit’s Felipe Lira on September 6th, 1996.
It was his 342nd home run as an Oriole, second only to Cal Ripken Jr’s 431. He finished with 343.
Murray, who was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003, is third among Orioles in hits (2,080) and RBIs (1,224).
He’s among seven players in baseball history with at least 3,000 hits and 500 home runs. Henry Aaron, Miguel Cabrera, Willie Mays, Rafael Palmeiro, Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez are the others.
Ripken and other former teammates will join Murray, who will address the fans and throw out the first pitch.
Fans will receive orange “EDDIE” signs, a replica of those given out that night.
