Orioles trade Tyler Wells to Rays

In their third trade of the day, the Orioles sent reliever Tyler Wells to the Tampa Bay Rays. The deal for the 31-year-old right-hander was first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan and confirmed by an industry source.

In return, the Orioles are re-acquiring pitching prospect Michael Forret, who was drafted by the team in the 14th round of the 2023 draft and traded to the Rays as part of the package that brought right-hander Shane Baz to Baltimore.

The inclusion of the 22-year-old right-hander was reported by The Tampa Bay Times and confirmed by an industry source.

In six seasons, Wells was 20-21 with a 3.79 ERA and nine saves. He started 50 games and pitched in relief 92 times.

He had season-ending elbow surgery in June 2024, and started seven times in 2024 and 2025.

This season, he was used exclusively in relief and went 2-2 with a 2.67 ERA and four saves.
