Orioles sign Kyle Bradish to a five-year, $90 million extension

The Orioles announced that right-hander Kyle Bradish has signed a five-year contract extension with the team. The deal, which an industry source says is worth $90 million, begins next season.

Bradish was originally scheduled to start Sunday’s game, but was pushed back because of the contract news, manager Craig Albernaz told reporters in Houston. Brandon Young will start instead.

The 29-year-old Bradish, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels in December 2019 for Dylan Bundy, debuted on April 29^th, 2022, and is 25-24 with a 3.50 ERA.

He had Tommy John surgery in June 2024 and returned late last season and had a 2.53 ERA in six starts. This year, Bradish is 6-9 with a 3.61 ERA in 19 starts.

His best season came in 2023 when he was 12-7 with a 2.83 ERA in 30 starts and was fourth in Cy Young Award voting.

It’s the third extension of an Orioles player in the last 11 months. Last August, catcher Samuel Basallo signed an eight-year, $67 million contract with an option for 2034. In March, another starter, Shane Baz, agreed to a five-year, $68 million deal.

Bradish will reportedly be paid $10 million next year, $13 million in 2028, $17 million in 2029, $22 million and $28 million in 2030 and 2031 according to Orioles broadcaster Ryan Ripken.

“Keeping players of Kyle’s caliber in an Orioles uniform is an important part of our long-term vision,” said Orioles control owner David Rubenstein in a statement. “We are grateful to Kyle for his commitment to our organization and to Baltimore. Thanks to Mike Elias and the entire baseball operations department for their dedication throughout this process.”

The deal by Elias, the Orioles’ president of baseball operations, buys out Bradish’s last two arbitration years.

“We have believed strongly in Kyle since he first joined the organization as a minor leaguer in 2019,” Elias said. “He has worked hard, with the support of our entire development team, to become one of the best starting pitchers in the league. He’s an exemplary member of our team and our community, and we are thrilled that he and his family are here to stay. This extension reflects the continued dedication of our ownership group, led by David Rubenstein, to build and sustain a team that our fans and Baltimore can be proud of.”
