ANAHEIM—Orioles third baseman Blaze Alexander was removed from Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels in the third inning with right knee discomfort.
Alexander struck out in his only at-bat, in the second inning.
He was replaced at third base by Leody Taveras, normally an outfielder. Taveras, who fielded the first ground ball hit to him in the bottom of third, had never before played the infield in professional ball.
Jackson Holliday, who’s out with groin tightness, was in uniform but didn’t replace Alexander. Coby Mayo was the designated hitter.
The Orioles have infielder Luis Vázquez with them on the taxi squad.
