What’s the latest on Orioles’ Ryan Mountcastle? | MAILBAG

Question: It’s been 60 days since Ryan Mountcastle hit the injured list now. Any chance we can get an update on his progress in Sarasota? From: Jamie G.

Answer: Jamie, I got a similar question from Marsha Smelkinson. Craig Albernaz offered an update on Mountcastle, who broke his left foot.

“He is on the ground with his feet and running. It’s a great box to check, do just like anyone would just try to keep tabs on and making sure that he’s getting built up appropriately. He has feet on the ground and on the baseball field,” Albernaz said.

Mike Elias had earlier indicated that Mountcastle’s rehab could stretch into July.

Question: I have always wondered – are Eddie Murray and Cal Ripken Jr. good friends? I ask because they come from such starkly different backgrounds and Eddie left the team midway in his career while Cal remained an Oriole his entire career. From: Palash Ghosh

Answer: By all accounts, Palash, Murray and Ripken are good friends. Yes, they come from starkly different backgrounds, but it happens often in baseball that players who seemingly have little in common become close.

Most weekdays, I’ll be answering at least one Orioles question. If you’d like to submit a question, send it to: Rich@BaltimoreBaseball.com. Questions may be edited for clarity, length and style.
