Orioles activate Helsley, designate Suárez for assignment; O’s-Red Sox lineups

BALTIMORE—The Orioles activated closer Ryan Helsley from the family leave/bereavement list on Sunday. They designated right-hander Albert Suárez for assignment.

Helsley left the Orioles after Tuesday night’s game in Kansas City and missed three games. He’s 0-2 with a 2.79 ERA with six saves.

Suárez was 1-0 with a 3.46 ERA in five games. He allowed four unearned runs in four innings in Saturday’s 17-1 loss to Boston.

The Orioles have 38 players on their 40-man roster.

Catcher Sam Huff elected free agency after he passed through waivers instead of accepting an assignment to Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles are expected to sign Huff to a new minor league contract.

Boston fired manager Alex Cora after Saturday’s game. They also fired several coaches, including former Orioles outfielder Kyle Hudson, who was their third base coach. Triple-A Worcester manager Chad Tracy was named interim manager.
