Whose Orioles’ jersey should I buy? | MAILBAG

Question: I was a partial-plan holder the year Camden Yards opened in 1992, and after a move to New Jersey I lost touch with baseball — no way could I root for the Yankees or the Mets.  This year, in retirement, I’ve started following the Orioles closely again (including you). I’d like to purchase a jersey to wear now and then and would like your take on whose I should get. I’d like to buy one that I have a good chance of wearing for several years given how players move around. If you were me, who are some fun, good players under contract for a while I could support? From: Steve in New Jersey

Answer: Steve, that’s an interesting question. Samuel Basallo signed an eight-year contract extension last August. Shane Baz signed a five-year extension a week ago, so those are two guys who should be around for a while. Of course, Pete Alonso just began a five-year contract with the team. They’re all good guys and good players.

Question: Why wasn’t Dean Kremer recalled instead of Albert Suárez? From: Ripley Watson

Answer: Rip, the Orioles needed help in the bullpen, and Suárez did a great job on Wednesday, pitching three innings. In the previous two games, the bullpen pitched eight innings, and it was important that a reliever was added.

Kremer is scheduled to start Friday night for Norfolk, and I’m confident he’ll be back up within the next 10 days.

Most weekdays, I’ll be answering at least one Orioles question. If you’d like to submit a question, send it to: Rich@BaltimoreBaseball.com. Questions may be edited for clarity, length and style.
