Should Orioles bring back Ramón Urías? | MAILBAG

Question: Since Ramón Urías was non-tendered, any interest in bringing him back to the Orioles? He is certainly well known and liked in the clubhouse. His veteran presence would be a big plus. From: Tom Burke

Answer: Tom, I’m not sure that a utility infielder is high on the Orioles’ list of priorities. I am a big fan of Urías, but if Gunnar Henderson, Jackson Holliday and Jordan Westburg are all healthy and productive, which didn’t happen in 2024 and 2025, there’s not much playing time for Urías or another utility infielder.

The guess here is that they won’t re-sign him, and he’ll look for a club where he’ll get more consistent playing time.

Question: Just curious – when a player (like Rodriguez) gets traded, how is he notified? I’m assuming this was quite a surprise for Grayson. Does Mike Elias call him personally? I hope players find out from Orioles staff before they hear about it in the news. From: Stephen Griffith

Answer: Steve, both Grayson Rodriguez and Taylor Ward said in their video conference calls that they had been notified by their respective general managers about the deal.

Most times, general managers tell the players directly. Other times, news leaks out and they hear from their agents. In busy times, particularly at the trade deadline, sometimes players find out from social media or watching MLB Network.

Most weekdays, I’ll be answering at least one Orioles question. If you’d like to submit a question, send it to: Rich@BaltimoreBaseball.com. Questions may be edited for clarity, length and style.
